The Baby chicks all came to join The Deep Roots Ridge family on May 29th of 2021. Danette went to Tractor Supply to get dog food and saw them, called Mike and he said I get home at 6 we will go back. Danette figured they would get 6 to start and bought a tote, the bedding and a starter baby chick kit. Well when they got back to Tractor Supply Mike told the employee to give him 2 of everything and the single black one left and out they walked with 15 chickens. The Chicken Army lived in our master bedroom until after 4th of July!!!

With Mike working a full-time job during the week as an over the road truck driver and the unpredictable weather of East Tennessee, the progress of the chicken coop took about 6 weeks to complete. With hard work from all of the family on his days off the Chicken Barracks was ready for move in day on July 9th.

On Saturday, August 21st, 2021 the perimeter fence went up so the the chickens can come out to play soon. The next step in the Chicken Army area is to get a swing door and ramp complete and the roof over the fenced in area to protect them from predators, and of course add some toys and nesting boxes for eggs!!!
